Earth Day was started in 1970 by EarthDay.org whose mission is to diversify, educate and activate the environmental movement worldwide. They believe our world needs transformational change which can be driven by the power of individuals. EarthDay.org is working with more than 75,000 partners in over 190 countries to drive positive action for our planet.
Many important environmental events have happened on Earth Day since 1970, including the recent signing of the Paris Agreement, as Earth Day continues to be a momentous and unifying day each and every year. In 2021 the theme is Restore Our Earth to remind us of the harm we’ve caused and of the opportunities that lay ahead.
We chose Earth Day (22 April 2021) to launch the Action on Climate Emergency Monmouth website to show that every one of us needs a healthy Earth to support our jobs, livelihoods, health & survival, and happiness. A healthy planet is not an option — it is a necessity.
