Forests are huge stores of carbon and the most biodiverse habitats on land. Before people began to develop agriculture they covered 57% of the land, but in the last 10,000 years a third of that has been lost, half of which has gone in the last hundred years. We now realise important it is to protect forests, yet in the last decade we have lost 47 million hectares, an area more than twice the size of Wales every year. Can we change?
