ACE June Newsletter

With preparations fully underway for the ACE Monmouth Climate Festival – to be held on the 23rd/24th September, there is certainly a buzz amongst the group. The programme is almost finalised and with exciting speakers such as Dr Emily Grossman now confirmed it promises to be a wonderful few days. With so many great things planned it will need a team of enthusiastic volunteers on board to help so if you are free that weekend and in the lead up to the festival please do get in touch via email info@acemonmouth.org or send a message through Facebook.

This weekend saw the return of the annual Save The Wye Festival and it did not disappoint. ACE joined lots of other fantastic organisations, businesses and the wider community to raise awareness for the plight facing the River Wye. It was a great turnout and so much support from local residents.

ACE received positive news this week when it was awarded funding of £2700 from Viridor, this money will be distributed to local schools to support garden projects. If your school is interested in creating or developing a school garden why not get in touch to see how ACE can support it. The funding is available for schools in the Monmouth catchment area, more details available on request.

Lastly we have been made aware of a pot of money available through the ‘Save Our Wild Isles’ Community Fund. Funded by Aviva, in partnership with WWF and the RSPB, £1 million is being made available to support community groups across the UK to protect and restore nature in their local area. From creating community gardens and replanting wildflower meadows, to protecting local wildlife and promoting community connection to nature this funding is designed to help communities around the UK bring nature back to life and make our isles wilder. So why not get your creative thinking caps on and join the next ACE meeting on the 20th July at 7pm via Zoom where ideas on projects we could put forward will be explored.

Please note ACE’s July meeting will be the last for the summer, they will commence again in September. Minutes from June’s meeting are available here.

Until then – stay hopeful!

With our warmest regards
Rebecca Cunningham (Project Officer)
Charles Emes (Treasurer)
Haydn Cullen-Jones (Secretary)
